Bali Hotels for a Family of Five: Where Five Actually Fits

Book a Bali hotel for a family of four, and the options are endless. Add a third child and the list shrinks fast. Most hotel rooms in Bali cap out at four guests, and many “family rooms” are just standard rooms with a rollaway squeezed into the corner.

It’s one of the questions we hear most from bigger families. So we’ve gone through our collection and pulled out the Bali hotels for a family of five that genuinely fit two adults and three kids, in one room or one villa, with a proper bed for everyone.

Why a family of five is tricky in Bali

Three things catch families out. The first is room limits. Most rooms are built for four, and some count babies in that number. The second is age cut-offs. Many hotels charge children as adults from a certain age, sometimes as young as six, so an older child can tip you over the limit even when the beds would fit. The third is rollaways. Not every hotel offers them, and a room that sleeps five with a rollaway is a very different night’s sleep from one with a real kids’ room.

What makes a good hotel room for five

We look for a separate kids’ room with real beds, whether that’s bunks or singles. Two bathrooms, because one bathroom and five people is nobody’s idea of a holiday. And a room type that is actually listed for two adults and three children, not one that needs a special arrangement. When you search on Booking.com, add each child’s age so you only see rooms that fit your family.

Padma Resort Legian, Legian

If one room in Bali was designed with a family of five in mind, it’s Padma’s Family Room. It sleeps two adults and three children up to 12, plus an infant, with a king master bedroom, a second bedroom with bunk beds, two bathrooms and a balcony or terrace. The Family Rooms sit close to the family pool and the Wolly Kids Club, so the kids are never far from the fun. With little ones, the Ground Floor Family Rooms open onto the gardens around the family pool and its waterslides.

If your eldest is over 12, look at the Family Suite. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and Club Lounge access, and it’s set up for larger combinations, including three adults and three children.

Padma sits right on Legian Beach, with a winding lagoon pool, nearly seven hectares of gardens and a famously good breakfast.

Paradisus by Meliá Bali, Nusa Dua

Paradisus has the widest choice of rooms for five in Nusa Dua. The three to look at are all part of its Family Concierge tier: the Family Concierge Junior Suite Garden View, the split-level Family Concierge Suite Duplex, and the Family Concierge Junior Suite Lagoon Access, where you step off your terrace straight into the lagoon pool.

Family Concierge adds a dedicated check-in with a kids’ playground, a family beach area of your own and daily kids’ club access. There’s Kidsdom for younger kids, the YOURWAY zone for teens and the Aquazone water park for everyone. Book an inclusive rate and dining, drinks and activities are all covered, or choose room-only.

Good to know: children 12 and over are charged as adults here. With teenagers in the mix, the Family Concierge Connecting Junior Suite, two interconnected suites under one booking, gives everyone more room.

The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Nusa Dua

The Westin’s Family Suite is one of the roomiest hotel options in Bali for a family of five. It’s 117 sqm, with two bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with two double beds, plus two bathrooms and a living and dining area. Those two doubles make it easy to fit three kids without anyone on a sofa bed.

With toddlers, ask for the Family Suite Pool Terrace, which is on the ground floor with direct access to the gardens and pool. Kids have the Westin Family kids’ club and a waterslide, and the resort sits on its own stretch of Nusa Dua’s calm, white-sand beach.

Good to know: children six and over are charged as adults at the Westin, so add everyone’s ages when you search to see the right occupancy.

Family Nest Resort & Villas, Uluwatu

Family Nest skips the hotel room altogether. It’s all villas, from one to five bedrooms, and it was built for families from day one. For a family of five, the three-bedroom villa is the one to book. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, so parents get a room and the kids can split the other two however keeps the peace. You also get a private pool, a full kitchen and indoor-outdoor living.

Cots and bed bumpers are free, pool fencing is available to hire, and toys and books are waiting when you arrive. The 1,000 sqm Pangolin Kids Club, for ages 0–14, runs until 8pm, and a free shuttle runs to Padang Padang Beach throughout the day.

COMO Uma Ubud, Ubud

For a family of five with older kids, COMO Uma Ubud’s COMO Villa is a standout. It’s 282 sqm, sleeps five guests including up to three children, and has two bedrooms with four-poster beds, two bathrooms, a big living room and a private infinity pool looking out over the Tjampuhan Valley.

COMO is a calm, wellness-focused resort rather than a kids’ club resort, so it suits families who’d rather explore Ubud together. Guided morning walks and yoga classes are included, and a shuttle runs into town. Children aren’t charged as adults until 18, which makes it one of the easier choices for families with teenagers.

One room or two connecting rooms?

Sometimes one room isn’t the answer. With three older kids, or teenagers who count as adults, two connecting rooms can work better. You get two bathrooms, two sets of beds, and a door you can close. The catch is the word “guaranteed”. At many hotels, a connecting room is a request, not a promise, so look for a room type that is sold as a connected pair.

Padma Resort Legian’s Family Deluxe Room is a good example: two deluxe rooms, one king and one twin, booked together with a guaranteed connecting door. For more layouts, see our guide to Bali hotels with family suites.

Prefer a villa for five?

A family of five is where villas really come into their own. Every child gets a proper bed, often their own room, and you get a kitchen, a private pool, and space to spread out. Plenty of families split the trip, with a few nights at a hotel for the kids’ club and the rest in a villa. Our guide to villa and hotel split stays explains how. For the villa part, our sister site Bali Family Villas has a hand-picked collection of family villas across Bali.

Family of five in Bali: common questions

Can a family of five stay in one hotel room in Bali?

Yes, at some hotels. Padma Resort Legian’s Family Room, the Family Concierge rooms at Paradisus by Meliá Bali, the Family Suite at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua and the COMO Villa at COMO Uma Ubud all sleep a family of five. Most standard hotel rooms in Bali cap out at four.

Which Bali hotel is best for 2 adults and 3 children?

Padma Resort Legian’s Family Room is built for exactly that, with a king bedroom for parents, a bunk room for the kids and two bathrooms. In Nusa Dua, Paradisus and the Westin both have family suites that fit five.

Do teenagers count as adults in Bali hotels?

Often, yes, and the cut-off age varies a lot. At the Westin it’s six, at Paradisus it’s 12, and at COMO Uma Ubud it’s 18. Always add each child’s age when you search, so the rooms you see are ones your family can actually book.

Is a villa or a hotel better for a family of five in Bali?

Hotels win on kids’ clubs, pools and activities. Villas win on space, privacy and bedrooms. For many families of five, the best answer is both, split across the one trip.

Which area of Bali is best for a big family?

Nusa Dua suits families who want a full resort holiday. Legian gives you the beach, the lagoon pools and plenty to walk to. Uluwatu is great for villa-style resorts and clifftop views, and Ubud is the pick for culture and jungle.
