The Oberoi Beach Resort

Our Take

The Oberoi is a Seminyak original — open since the 1970s and still one of the most distinctive properties on the island. What makes it genuinely special for families isn’t the pool or the spa (both excellent) but the grounds: fifteen acres of open green lawns, lily ponds full of carp, winding stone pathways past moss-covered statues and age-old Balinese architecture. Around 70% of the total property is garden. Kids roam here. There’s space to breathe, to wander, to actually feel like you’re in Bali rather than a resort bubble. Only around 74 villas and rooms sit across those fifteen acres — so it never feels crowded. The natural amphitheater hosts traditional Balinese dance performances under the stars. The staff are quietly extraordinary — the kind of team that greets you with flower leis at the taxi, escorts you to a shaded table at check-in, and brings a cool towel without being asked. No dedicated kids club. There are a handful of activities available for children — swimming lessons, tennis, painting — but structured childcare isn’t the offer here. Tilo Kids Club at nearby Montigo on Jalan Petitenget is open to outside guests and is worth knowing about if you want a morning of supervised activities. The Oberoi is best for families with older children or those who don’t need a kids club — the gardens, the dance performances and the sheer beauty of the place do the heavy lifting.

About Seminyak

Stylish, walkable and buzzing. The Bali so many keep coming back for — great for all generations.

Seminyak is the ‘second home’ destination to many repeat visitors from all over the world and home to some of Bali’s most loved family hotels. Beach clubs, beautiful restaurants, boutique shopping and a buzzing energy that somehow manages to feel cool without being in your face. It’s got the sunset vibes and decent footpaths, which matters more than people realise when you’re travelling with a family.

The hotel strip here is impressive — from mid-range properties with great pools to seriously luxurious stays that put you right in the middle of everything. The W, The Legian, HotelIndigo, The Oberoi — a genuinely strong collection of family hotels in Seminyak that coverevery budget within the luxury spectrum.

Unlike Nusa Dua, Seminyak doesn’t shelter you from Bali — but it is more upmarket than Legian and Kuta. The street food, the boutiques, the beach sunsets, the energy of an Indonesian evening — it’s all right there. Older kids and teens love it. Adults love it. Even grandparents who weren’t sure about Bali tend to find their people here. It’s a good choice if you want to experience a little bit of everything.
